The Value of Music

I spend many of my free nights sitting with guitar in hand strumming away. Often I'm trying to learn songs that I have written and other times I'm working on covers that I think can connect to a wide range of people; songs that make people perk up and smile.

Last Friday I played a gig with the WS Collective at the Twisted Lip, anyone who was there that night could tell you what a great night it was. As a group we had not practised for the gig. We turned up, setup and just began jamming, it worked because each member of the collective had earned their place in the group as individually they are good musicians.

It's a telling experience when people approach with beaming smiles on their faces and want to shake your hand and tell you how good you just made them feel. For all those people who love what we are doing I say Thank you.

The WS Collective does n't have an official band page because it does n't officially exist as a band. It is an idea that any musician of good ability can listen and contribute to the song that one of the members has embarked upon in that moment. Music makes people feel many high end emotions and if you're having a drink on a Friday night with friends and your favourite song comes on the speakers then instantly you perk up and want to dance. When the music is coming from a live performer in front of you those feelings are enlarged fourfold.

Be good to your community and support live music, actively go out there and seek it. Organise nights with old friends in which you go to see your favourite band. Find the local music scene and encourage up and coming bands to keep doing what they are doing. If you're a musician yourself and you haven't played for an audience; what are you waiting for? Find an open mic night in your area and sign up. Music Saves the World just by being participated in. That is as simple as it gets. Save the world today and go enjoy some live music.

I came across this guy teaching guitar on Youtube and I liked his teaching method, he also had a bit of a rant that I liked too. Check out his channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFILgVVKIIs
